Darby 3's Story . . .
___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Original:  “Darby loves exploring the yard chasing falling leaves and bringing back twigs and sticks to chew on.”

Although it is rare for MAESSR to have puppies for placement, Darby came into MAESSR’s care when a Springer breeder in Maryland developed serious health problems and had to rehome his dogs.

Darby arrived in her foster home with three of her littermates.  She was the largest of the four and the most adventurous, which is how she received her title of Braveheart.  Two of her sisters moved to their permanent foster home and Darby and her brother settled into a carefree routine of puppy life.  Up at 6 a.m., then go out to potty, then back in for breakfast.  After breakfast there is play time and trips outside before nap time.  After  a nap, it’s time for lunch then outside for playtime and back in for another nap and, before you know it, dinner is served followed by more trips outside and play.

Darby is working on her housetraining but there are so many distractions outside, she often comes in forgetting what was supposed to be left in the yard!  She does listen to NO and will sit for a treat after much jumping and wiggling.

Little Miss Braveheart  is not crazy about the collar and leash but is getting used to having them on for some time each day. She loves playing tug with her brother and other foster siblings.  When her foster mom plays ball with the resident dogs, she runs chasing them as they chase their ball.  A couple times she has gotten the ball and taken off running. She loves chewing and gets some quiet time each day to enjoy a chewing toy or bone. Darby loves exploring the yard chasing falling leaves and bringing back twigs and sticks to chew on.

Darby can play rough and tumble hard but she has a softer side where she wants to be held and snuggled.  She is usually found snuggled with her brother who keeps tabs by resting his head on her.

Potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and younger to enroll their puppy in a series of obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. These classes will be a breeze for this smart little girl.
