Update 02/09/2023: "She is down to 57 lbs. from 65, so she is losing some good weight!"

Olivia had a great checkup last at the vet. She was pacing a bit in the room, but she had a heartworm test and it came back negative. Tests also showed that Olivia is negative for Lyme disease. She is down to 57 lbs. from 65, so she is losing some good weight!

The vet said Olivia may have some arthritis in her one wrist based on her mobility, but other than that she is in great shape. She will need a little at-home dental care since she has some worn down teeth, but it is manageable.

This sweet senior girl is ready for her forever home!

Olivia 2 returned to MAESSR upon the recent death of her owner. She was originally adopted in 2019 and was the only dog in an adult household. She has not had experience with children in her foster home, either.

Since moving into a foster home, Olivia has been the perfect guest. She tugs on her leash by the door when she has to go out, sleeps on her foster dad’s bed at night and has excellent house manners—no counter-surfing, trash diving or inappropriate chewing for this gal. She does have a favorite chair.

Olivia loves to go for walks, pulling only when she sees one of those pesky squirrels, and is friendly to all she meets. Long walks around the city are helping her shed some extra pounds. She is also a good car rider, settling in on her quilt and falling asleep quickly.

This lovely senior knows “let’s go on a walk,” “sit,” “treat” “want to eat,” and "paw." Her toy playing is limited to chewing on dentasticks. She sometimes barks intermittently to show her displeasure when foster dad leaves her and barks enthusiastically to welcome him home! When alone, she spends her time in the living room on a rug or her dog bed.

Olivia has shown no guarding behaviors but is a little protective if someone comes near her food bowl. She was accepting of a home grooming and with having her ears cleaned. A vet visit is planned in the New Year.

Senior Springer Spaniels are the finest kind, and Olivia will be a pleasure in any home that will give her love, attention and daily walks.

Olivia and her brother were purchased from a Craig's List ad when they were 6-8 weeks old. The two pups grew up together as a tightly bonded pair. From the beginning, they seemed uncomfortable around children and not interested in other dogs they met at the dog park. In the last two years, Olivia has snapped at the family grandchild a few times. Due to the ongoing issues with the grandchild, the Virginia family made the wise decision to find Olivia a home without young children.

Olivia is housetrained and goes out into a fenced yard although she does bark at dogs walking by the yard. She is walked on a leash but reacts to other dogs that she may meet. The beautiful young lady is good at the vet and groomer and okay in the car. She is very loving with adults, adores attention and will lie down on her back for pets. Olivia is crate trained and chooses to sleep on the downstairs sofa at night.

But, she does steal food from counters (she is a Springer, after all) and becomes a little worked up over storms. She will run away if one makes a raspberry noise. Olivia does guard her food from other dogs.

Olivia is receiving an anti-depressant in an attempt to alleviate her anxiety about children. Her new family will be required to continue this treatment for three months after adoption after which she can be weaned off the medication under the supervision of a vet.

This girl is really sweet…as long as one is not another dog! And, even with other dogs, she is okay as long as they don’t come too close. An adult home where she can be the only dog and receive all the tummy rubs she so deserves is what is recommended for Miss Olivia. She’s had a number of changes and needs her own family where she can be the star!!
