  •  Three years ago, we made the best decision in deciding to adopt another ESS.  Zoey then came to us and is the BEST dog ever.  She is not only beautiful but so well behaved and is loved by everyone. We can't thank MAESSR and Debbie enough for giving us Zoey.                                                                                                                                                                                                  Judy Minnick, NJ

Love's Story . . .
Original:  “Love is a sweet girl with an amazing temperament.”

When a Maryland kennel was closing, MAESSR volunteered to place its Springers.  Pregnant Aurora was one of these dogs and she whelped three female puppies on July 4—Love, Faith, and Hope.  The pups spent their first few months with their mother, then Love and her sisters were taken to other foster families to continue their training.
Love is a sweet girl with an amazing temperament. She gets along really well with the resident ESS-- her big brother-- and the local bloodhound.  Love doesn't seem to have any issues greeting new dogs, either. To date, she has not met any cats.  She has two human toddler brothers and, although occasionally her puppy playfulness gets her in trouble, she does get along well with them.
A very smart girl, Love has already learned many commands including “sit,” “stay,” “walk,” “okay,” “off,” “down,” and “leave it.”   She gets two walks a day and walks well on leash. But she always has to carry a stick with her!  Please note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under 1 year old to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption.  Love will be a star pupil.
Love is crate trained and housetrained but still has the odd accident here or there.  She gets so excited that she sometimes forgets to tell her foster parents that she needs to go outside.  When her foster family is out of the house, Love is crated and she spends the night in her crate in her foster parents’ bedroom.  A curious girl, Love likes to put her paws on the counter to see what is there, but she can’t reach anything—yet!  Her foster parents are teaching her “off.”  Love is not tempted by the trash can.  Good girl!  Her foster family allows her on the couch and bed.  In the car, Love is harnessed (to her dismay) and she cries because she is separated from her people and she gets tangled.
This puppy loves chew toys, toys with squeakers, and balls and, best of all, she does not destroy them.  Love is still a little mouthy as she is still losing her baby teeth.  That’s where the chew toys help out!  She loves to play with the older resident Springer and engages him in play often.  She is learning proper dog play with him—a valuable lesson.  She and he are fed in the kitchen next to each other and this arrangement works fine.
Love has been good at the groomer and has been good having her nails cut and ears cleaned.  She was very good at the vet’s office and got a big hug from the vet at the end of her appointment.  She lives up to her name!

Love just melts the hearts of everyone she meets and she loves everyone!
