  •  Three years ago, we made the best decision in deciding to adopt another ESS.  Zoey then came to us and is the BEST dog ever.  She is not only beautiful but so well behaved and is loved by everyone. We can't thank MAESSR and Debbie enough for giving us Zoey.                                                                                                                                                                                                  Judy Minnick, NJ

Johnny's Story . . .

Original:  “Johnny really wants to be with his people all of the time.”

Johnny and June are English Toy Spaniels whose West Virginia owner passed away suddenly.  A Good Samaritan took them in, trying to help; unfortunately, it became apparent that they needed more than this kind person could provide.  She found MAESSR through a relative of one of our volunteers.  MAESSR was more than happy to help these two little sweethearts.

Since Johnny had not had socialization to much of the world, everything scares him. He has learned a great deal since coming into foster care a couple of weeks ago.  Although he is not housetrained, he is learning and keeps his crate clean and dry.  He and June are doing great considering they had not previously been kept in a home.

Johnny really wants to be with his people all of the time.  He feels safer and much more secure when he is being held.  The fact that he loves this human contact is actually wonderful progress for him since he has not had much attention in his previous life.  Being on a leash is totally foreign to him; he is much more comfortable being carried.  He enjoys being a passenger in the car, too!

Please note that MAESSR will require the adoptive family to take their new family member through a series of obedience classes within 90 days of adoption.  MAESSR only places puppies – even older ones like Johnny– in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience.  MAESSR believes the decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment.  Obedience lessons will help Johnny to adjust to his new life.

In his foster home, there are many resident and foster Springers and Johnny found this intimidating at first.  Those other dogs were so big and active!  With time Johnny is getting more used to these big guys and he is more comfortable with them.

Everyone that has met this sweet boy wants to take him home, including the staff at the vet clinic.  The vet found that Johnny had a UTI for which he is being treated. The vet also suggested that Johnny put on a pound or two to be at optimum weight.  He was a good boy for his new veterinarian friend.

This little boy is a heart stealer who is going to make some person a wonderful, loving companion.
