Three years ago, we made the best decision in
deciding to adopt another ESS. Zoey then came to us and is the BEST dog
ever. She is not only beautiful but so well behaved and is loved by
everyone. We can't thank MAESSR and Debbie enough for giving us Zoey. Judy Minnick, NJ

Freckles 23's Story . . .
___________________________________________________________________________________________________
Update 02/17/2019: "Despite a promising start in foster care, Freckles' more undesirable qualities began to surface."
Despite a promising start in foster care, Freckles’ more undesirable qualities began to surface. She was transferred to another experienced foster family for evaluation but they too found her behavior and temperament to be too volatile, making Freckles unsuitable for adoption. She was sadly sent to the Rainbow Bridge.
Original: “Other fun objects that Freckles likes to carry around include towels and area throw rugs. She takes care of any threats they pose by shaking them!”
When Freckles’ family in Maryland felt that they did not have the time or experience to raise a young, active Springer puppy, they called on MAESSR to find her an appropriate home.
This young pup loves to run, run, run! She is getting much needed exercise at her foster family’s farm, although she wants her person outside with her to play or throw a ball to her. Strong-willed but sweet, Freckles is learning to “sit” on command. So far this is working only when she’s shown a treat! She’s a bit of a counter-surfer and can be “mouthy,” so she is learning that these are not acceptable behaviors.
Freckles plays with all the toys in the toy box at her foster home. She loves balls and will throw them and chase them. She will chew on other toys and take out the stuffing. Because she likes to be in-charge, she will pester the resident dog. However, when she met a relative’s dog with a similar personality, they hit it off and had a great time running and playing the “dog play-fighting game” to chase each other. Due to her exuberance, Freckles would be best in a home with older children. With new adults, she prefers to be touched only after feeling comfortable with them.
A crate is not used in her foster home and Freckles can stay all day in the house with access to several rooms. She is housetrained but will have an occasional accident. At night she sleeps on a dog bed in her foster parents’ room. She does not get on furniture but really, really wants to be in her person’s lap. Freckles loves to walk around with a shoe in her mouth. If offered a treat, she willingly releases it. Other fun objects that Freckles likes to carry around include towels and area throw rugs. She takes care of any threats they pose by shaking them!
Freckles is a bit of a wild child who needs considerable training to learn how to be a well-mannered Springer girl. Potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Freckles is a smart girl who should prove to be an excellent student!
Was it mentioned that Freckles is energetic and LOVES to run? She doesn’t mind if her exercise is in the rain and she seems keen on finding water to explore. She even jumped into the tub when her foster mom was running the shower. Chances are this girl would love swimming.
Freckles is a sweet girl who wants to be loved. She needs an active family willing to spend the time to guide her into adulthood.
