Three years ago, we made the best decision in
deciding to adopt another ESS. Zoey then came to us and is the BEST dog
ever. She is not only beautiful but so well behaved and is loved by
everyone. We can't thank MAESSR and Debbie enough for giving us Zoey. Judy Minnick, NJ

Abita's Story . . .
___________________________________________________________________________________________________
Original: “She's a fantastic pup that loves everything and everyone. She wants to explore the world and find her forever companion to do this with!”
Miss Abita was surrendered by her owners to a Virginia SPCA. Her owners said they no longer had the time or means to take care of her. They also said she had an issue with submissive urination. She is of course still a young dog, which could explain this. She was only in the shelter for a couple of days before an awesome MAESSR volunteer was able to “Spring-Her.”
A happy, healthy 1 year-old, yes, Abita is still very much a puppy! She is at first glance black and white but, in certain lights, you realize she's actually a tri-color! She has the long fieldie legs and is an active sniffer, but she’s still quite a compact size. Her face makes you melt, even if she's getting into puppy mischief!
She gets along great with everyone and every animal she meets. She sometimes is overly excited when greeting people, but continued training and patience will solve this. She is housetrained completely and knows “sit,” “stay,” “leave it,” and “down.” She is learning that sitting on the furniture and sleeping in her foster parents’ bed is not allowed. She is now perfectly happy sitting at her foster mother’s feet and sleeping in the gated kitchen. This lovely girl does well in the car and allowed the vet to handle her easily.
Abita is an extremely active girl and would do fantastically in a high-energy home that has the time and patience to train a puppy. She loves to go on runs. Her original family said that they used to run 5-6 miles with her; her foster mother takes her on 2-mile walks every afternoon. This youngster does great on the leash and only pulls when excited; she does want to greet everyone on the trip. As a pup she still thinks any and all time is a good time to play. She will need some continuing guidance as to when the appropriate time to play is, but she is a quick learner.
She's a fantastic pup that loves everything and everyone. She wants to explore the world and find her forever companion to do this with! If you’re ready for a lively walking or running partner who will cuddle with you at day’s end, Abita may be your perfect match!!
