    Turbo's Story . . .
Original:  "Recently, Turbo went to the beach. He went in the water easily but then came out and rolled in the sand trying to dry off."
Turbo is a sweet and energetic puppy who turned up at a Virginia shelter. Fortunately, he wasn’t there too long before a MAESSR volunteer “sprung” him and he was on his way!
So far, Turbo is doing very well in foster care. At about four months old, he is nearly housetrained, with occasional accidents that are decreasing in
frequency. He sleeps in a crate without complaint and goes in on his own for a daytime nap. Turbo likes the family cats and they don't seem to mind him. They even take turns grooming each other! He is very interested in other dogs and is best friends with the older female Springer in his foster home. The two of them share stuffed animals, tennis balls, food dishes, the doggie bed, the boys' laps, and chew toys. Turbo likes pork rawhide twists better than shoes, but he likes to carry around socks, especially if they are dirty. He knows “sit” and “come,” but his return still depends on his puppy interest in his surroundings. MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under 1 year old to enroll their puppy in an obedience class within 60 days of adoption.
Recently, Turbo went to the beach. He went in the water easily but then came out and rolled in the sand trying to dry off. He very much enjoys the
baby pool in the yard and will lie down or roll in it. After he gets out, he rolls in the grass or dirt – head first! He has very long ears and his foster mom suspects he is trying to get out the water that works its way in.
On walks, Turbo does pull on the leash. When he feels he's gone far enough (three houses, usually) he lies down and won't get up. His foster family
had nicknamed him “Einstein” due to his crazy hairdo, extremely long eyelashes, and gray/blue eyes that just brought Albert Einstein to mind. Coupled with his puppy goofiness, the name fit perfectly. Since going to the groomer, he is now sporting a true Springer cut and looks much more like a Turbo.
In short, Turbo likes everybody, and almost everything! He likes his crate, stuffed toys, things to chew on, cuddling, Springer kisses, and pool water.
He tolerates baths but barks at the vacuum cleaner and the front door. He doesn't beg at dinner or counter-surf; however, he has shown interest in stinky garbage cans and good smells when dinner is cooking. He would probably do very well with a busy family where someone could spend time with him during the day. This pup is a great little fellow. Just looking at Turbo is sure to make you smile!
