  •  Three years ago, we made the best decision in deciding to adopt another ESS.  Zoey then came to us and is the BEST dog ever.  She is not only beautiful but so well behaved and is loved by everyone. We can't thank MAESSR and Debbie enough for giving us Zoey.                                                                                                                                                                                                  Judy Minnick, NJ

Skye 2's Story . . .
Update 07/12/2013:  "He gets along very well with the two children in the house, ages 10 and 7."

Sir Big Skye King has settled nicely into his new foster home.  He gets along very well with the two children in the house, ages 10 and 7.  He is also good with the two female springers of the house and, while interested in the cats, has shown no signs of stalking or chasing them.  Good boy!!

His current foster home is fully fenced with plenty of room to roam and this seems to suit Skye well.  He'll go off and explore things on his own and responds to his name when called back.  He enjoys chasing a ball outside and can often be found carrying a stuffed animal around.  And true to his breed's name, his family has caught this springer flushing birds out of the wooded areas around the house more than once!

Overall Skye has excellent manners, but he is a real couch potato.  Given the chance he will cuddle up next to his foster mom on the couch or bed.  It's hard to resist the sad springer eyes, but a gentle reminder or nudge is sufficient to get him off with no problem.  His house manners are very good too.  He lets his family know every morning when it's time to go out.

Skye is currently taking a supplement for joint health.  Other than that, this handsome dog is in perfect health.  Skye would be well suited to a calm household without too much activity.  He enjoys the company of his canine companions, so a home with a few laid back female dogs would be perfect for him.  Ask about meeting him today and let him fly right into your heart!!

Original:  "He likes to play tug-of-war or keep-away with his foster sister, a 9 month old female."

Although Skye got along fine with his female canine housemate and with other visiting dogs, he started having disagreements with his 6 year old male Springer son within their Pennsylvania home.  With the husband in the family away with serious health issues and about to return home, Skye's owner turned him over to MAESSR so she could care for the husband.

Skye’s overall health is good and he’s laid back inside. He loves to cuddle, play fetch, or go for walks with his humans. About a year ago, Skye reportedly began showing some occasional stiffness in his back legs. The vet suggested a glucosamine/condroitin supplement which Skye’s been taking ever since.

Housetrained but not crate trained, Skye still occasionally goes in and out of open crates at his foster home. He sleeps on the floor near the bedroom door at night and is left uncrated with the bedroom doors shut when his foster folks are away.  During his foster parents’ mealtime, Skye will sit and stare at them but he doesn’t get any pushier or grabby in his begging. When told to do so, he'll go lie down.  Things on the counter or in the trash can stay where they are as Skye has no interest in counter- or trash surfing. Good boy!

This handsome boy has not had any formal training but knows “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “down,” and “paw.” He loves car rides, and will ride in a crate if asked, though he prefers the front passenger seat.  His leash manners are good, though like many Springers, he can be slow to move along if a good scent catches his nose.  He's probably trustworthy off leash, though this hasn't been tested in his foster home because of nearby busy roads.

Skye hasn’t reportedly been around small children or toddlers, but he certainly likes the adults he has met!  He has been good with the other dogs he’s met—especially the females!   He likes to play tug-of-war or keep-away with his foster sister, a 9 month old female.  He tends to ignore smaller dogs.

An active, playful boy, Skye loves toys, balls, and playing keep-away with his toys in the yard.  He reportedly loved swimming laps in the pool at his previous home. When grooming time rolls around, he is a good boy who has no issues and his previous owners groomed him themselves.

This big headed boy just loves to be around his humans, kicking back in the floor while his foster mom works, but always ready to pick up a toy and invite a game of toss the stuffed animal.  He will make a great addition to some lucky family!
