Silas's Story . . .
Original: “Silas is an anxious little guy who is looking for a steady home life.  He is extremely sweet and loving; he just needs a little more training.”

Silas has the tale of many Springer pups that come into MAESSR.  He was purchased and owned for about 4 months by a man from Maryland who found he was gone too long from home and didn’t have time for this active puppy.  He was then given to the owner’s parents who found they could not care for this sweet growing guy.
Being bounced around this way has made Silas an anxious little guy who is looking for a steady home life.  He is extremely sweet and loving; he just needs a little more training.  He does not like to be crated, but is almost house-trained so he has full run of his foster home.  He had a successful few days recently and with support will continue to be accident free. He is a smart boy and catches on by watching the resident dogs.  He knows “come” and “sit” but will need a dedicated family to continue his training.  He walks on a leash but pulls some, as he is excited to see the local wildlife and new locations.
Although he has had some obedience training, Silas would benefit from more which would help him build his confidence.  MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs 1 year old and younger to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption.
Silas sleeps on a dog bed in the master bedroom.  He will jump on the bed for a few minutes to get some cuddle time but then gets down and settles in his own bed.  He is a typical Springer Velcro-dog and will not leave your side.  Silas enjoys his foster home’s furniture but mostly sleeps on his on a doggie bed during the day.
Little Silas gets nervous when meeting new people and dogs.  He tends to bark a little, then slowly makes his way over to investigate, and then will quickly make new friends.  His foster home does not have cats so it is not know how he will react to them.
This little guy loves playing with toys.  He tears stuffed animals apart and takes out the stuffing.  He then proceeds to carry what is left all over the house.  He likes playing fetch and will actually return the ball. He knows that it is only okay to chew on chew toys and bones.  When outside, he knows to stay around the house when off leash and will come on command.  Because he loves to run, his future family will need to take him for long walks, to swimming opportunities, and take the time to play with him.
Silas know how to share his toys and food and is fed with the resident dogs in the kitchen but in separate areas.  He has also learned to wait for the resident dogs to finish their meals before licking the dishes clean.  He does not counter-surf but will sit quietly and watch what is happening on the countertop.  He does like to pull out tissues from the bathroom trash so puppy proofing his new house will need to take place before he is adopted.
Silas didn’t mind the trip to the vets and did great when being groomed.  He is currently being treated for whipworms and he is getting regular ear leanings to curtail any ear infections.   He of course was a little nervous with all the new experiences but loves every minute of the attention.  His future family will need to remember to roll up the windows when on a car ride, as Silas likes to jump out of them to explore the surroundings landscape.
Silas is a puppy who will need a family with a fenced yard and who is willing to give him lots of attention.  Silas will need to have obedience training to make him the perfect Springer he wants to be.  He really needs to find a family with kids who will give him the guidance and the rock solid home he deserves.
