Lisa Roth
Hello Everyone. . .my name is Lisa Roth and I live in Northern Virginia with my three dogs, Bentley, Que, and Oliver. My two Springer Spaniels are Bentley and Que, both MAESSR adoptees from the Class of 2004. My third dog, Oliver, was a stray who wandered into my front yard and adopted us when his previous owners decided they didn’t want him any longer.
I was born and raised in La Crosse, Wisconsin. I’ve adored dogs for as long as I can remember. Our first family dog was a scrappy little Pomeranian stray who found us, followed by numerous Golden Retrievers. My love of Springer Spaniels started with a childhood friend whose Springer had a litter of puppies. I thought they were the cutest things on earth and dreamt of the day when I could have one of my own.
Following college, I moved to the Washington, DC area. As a renter, I went a few years without a dog, but as soon as I bought my own place, I started looking for a four-legged roommate. I found Arthur, my first Springer Spaniel, through an ad in the newspaper. Arthur’s was a story we hear many times over in rescue. . .the young couple recently had a baby and no longer had time for their dog. It was love at first sight for me. Arthur was all Springer—he literally bounced off the walls when he was excited and happy. If there were no birds or squirrels to point, he would point the blowing leaves or anything else that moved. I learned a great deal about the breed through him and knew that I was hooked for life on Springers. Arthur lived to the ripe old age of 15 ½ and I am very grateful for the 10+ years we had together.
I am a career civil servant with the federal government (17 years) and have been employed at the US Department of Veterans Affairs since 1998. My current position is Director of Outreach. I am proud to serve our veterans who have so selflessly served our Nation. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from The American University in Washington, DC.
I’ve been involved as a MAESSR volunteer for approximately 8 years. I started with doing transports and moved into various other activities including serving as a foster home, writing acknowledgments for all MAESSR donations, assisting at rescue events, and fundraising through dog cookie bake sales.
As a long-time MAESSR volunteer, I have been very impressed with the dedicated individuals who manage and volunteer for this wonderful organization. When there is a Springer in need, this group launches into action and does everything possible to ensure that the dog finds a safe and happy forever home. When asked to serve on MAESSR’s Board of Directors, I was honored to accept.
In addition to being a member of the Board of Directors, I will serve as MAESSR’s Secretary. In this role, I will process and maintain adoption contracts, transcribe Board Meeting minutes, and other administrative duties as needed. In addition, I will continue to provide acknowledgements for all donations as MAESSR’s correspondence volunteer.
I look forward to the wonderful things to come for all of MAESSR’s Springers, its wonderful volunteers, and adopting families.
