Sue Geckle
I live with my husband, three children and my MAESSR Springers, Bo & ZuZu, in Howard County, Maryland. In July 2001, I joined MAESSR. Over the years I have held many positions with MAESSR. I have served as a foster home and also as a weekend email checker. I conducted applicant interviews for a time and then served as an interview trainer. I have worked on the owner relinquishment team too. I was the Applications Coordinator for Maryland , Virginia , West Virginia and the District of Columbia until the fall of 2007. I now serve as the Adoption Coordinator and have the pleasure of crafting matches between dogs that are ready for their new families and families that are read to adopt. In my non-MAESSR time, I work full time as a Help Desk technician. I am also on the Board of Directors for my daughter's high school booster club, and volunteer with AFS which is a student exchange program. I am frequently seen on the sidelines of soccer fields, baseball fields and basketball courts watching my kids play. For fun, I like to read, sit on the beach and spend time with the kids and the dogs. My involvement with MAESSR began when my family applied in the summer of 2000 to adopt a Springer. Before we received an offer, my family talked me into purchasing a puppy. Even though we did not adopt at the time, I remained on the MAESSR Yahoo group list. When I saw an email requesting foster homes for the summer, we decided to volunteer. We got our first foster, Dodger, in July 2001. We have had a total of 21 fosters since then. One very special boy came into our home in January 2004. He was so sweet that we couldn't let him go and that is how Bo joined the family. In December 2007, I pulled a very shy, scared little girl from the local shelter. She was supposed to stay for the afternoon until her foster mom could pick her up but we adopted her in January 2008. ZuZu who now thinks she is the queen of the castle enjoys bossing Bo around and playing with tennis balls & running in the yard. MAESSR volunteers are so pleasant to work with that I have found myself volunteering for more and more things. It's so hard not to when you know how hard everyone else is working for the springers who so need our help. I was first elected to the MAESSR Board in July 2004 to fill out the remainder of a term. I was reelected in January 2006 for a full three year term. This is a wonderful organization filled with terrific volunteers. I am very proud to be associated with MAESSR. |
