MAESSR

Tim DayTim Day

Hello, my name is Tim Day. I live in Alexandria, VA with my 3 Springer Spaniels: Logan, Mollie and Jesse.

My love of Springers happened purely by accident on a weekend trip to New Hope, PA 7 years ago. While on my way home, I stopped at what I thought was a flea market/antique fair, only to find out it was an adoption fair for various rescue groups. While wandering around the fair, I came upon the MAESSR booth and there met Hero - the sire of the Montgomery 9.

I grew up in a small rural town in Central Ohio and always had pets; dogs, cats and fish, but I had never been exposed to Springers. For whatever reason, I immediately fell in love with Hero. However, it was not to be because Hero had already been adopted and I worked on Capitol Hill at the time and really wasn't in a position to dedicate myself to a pet. But that Sunday afternoon in PA lit the fuse that allows me to serve on the Board of MAESSR.

Back in Washington, D.C., I couldn't stop thinking of Hero. A couple of months passed and I left Capitol Hill for a corporate lobbying job which believe it or not allowed me to have more time to spend with a pet companion. I went on the MAESSR website and anxiously started the adoption process. I will never forget the day that I got the call saying "you're approved to adopt"!

Logan (Nader) was 7 months old when he came to live with me in Georgetown. Logan just happened to be the son of Hero, the same Hero that I had met in PA on that Sunday afternoon. It's amazing how everything turned out in the end - something that I could not have planned better myself. The process to adopt Logan opened my eyes to the dedication of everyone involved with MAESSR. The process impressed me so much and I was so thankful to have Logan that I began to volunteer transporting Springers on the weekend, checking and pulling Springers from various shelters, and interviewing potential adoptive parents/families - I was hooked.

Approximately a year later, I was asked to transport and temporarily foster a cute little Springer named Mollie. The plan was to foster her in Georgetown until the "real" foster family could come and get her. What was suppose to be a two night stay became permanent - she stole my heart almost immediately and she became Logan's little sister.

A MAESSR Springer named Jesse followed, a rescue from a shelter in Northern Virginia. I went to the shelter to pull him and again fell in love and he became the little brother of Logan and Mollie. At that point, I decided that fostering was probably not for me because I couldn't say goodbye, the big brown eyes always made me melt.

Logan, Mollie and Jesse a.k.a. my gang, are my family. We vacation in Maine together, enjoy long walks and of course, watch many squirrels and birds together. When I was asked to serve on the MAESSR Board, without hesitation, I gladly accepted the honor to serve. My gang have given so much to me, the opportunity to serve on the Board of MAESSR allows me to give back just little of my appreciation for the tremendous work that is done for every day by so many wonderful, caring volunteers. Logan will always hold a very special place in my heart, he is the first of many Springers who will be a part of my family.
