  • We got Boone from MAESSR when he was 6 years old. He was not dog-friendly and not good with young children, which presented some problems for us.  However, he loved us unconditionally, and he deserved the same from us. We introduced him to swimming.  He was hesitant at first, but he quickly became a water dog.  He loved car rides and just being with his people. We lost Boone very suddenly and unexpectedly on Sept. 11,2018 due to a bleeding tumor in his spleen. It was one month shy of his 13th birthday. He was great up until that last morning. There is a huge hole in our hearts that will never be filled. Even if we get another dog, there will never be another Boone.

Matthew's Story . . .
Original: "Matthew will snuggle up with his people to watch TV or take a nap, but he's ready to go on a new adventure at any time."
Matthew was found by a very caring person when he was running down a street in Virginia.  She spent weeks trying to find his owners and contacting shelters and vet hospitals. Eventually due to her housing situation, she had to find a place for Matthew. So, even though Matthew is a beautiful cocker spaniel boy, MAESSR decided to take him and find him a forever home.
Matthew obviously had a family that loved him at one point in his life.  He has wonderful house manners.  He loves to sleep with his foster parents, but will get off of the bed when told.  Matthew is crate trained, but crating is not necessary as he has free roam of his foster home and has never had an accident.  Opportunistically, he will occasionally counter-surf; if he manages to steal something, he does not want to give it back—finder’s keepers!   His foster mom is working with him on trading for another item.
This handsome guy loves to be with his people and really wants to please.  Matthew will snuggle up with his people to watch TV or take a nap, but he’s ready to go on a new adventure at any time. His favorite toy is a tennis ball, and he plays with it by himself, preferring that the two-footed folks do not play with him.  He also has a rope toy he enjoys.  Matthew is smart and has learned some new tricks.  He can “sit,” “shake,” “speak,” and “stay.”  Having a mind of his own, he will stay and sit (sometimes) without a treat, but will not speak or shake without one!   He pulls on the leash at the beginning of a walk; after that he settles in for a nice stroll fairly quickly.  He thinks car rides are fun and are his preferred mode of travel.
“So I wrote this down for Matthew, And it's for him the song is sung…”  (John Denver)  If you would like a really sweet, handsome Cocker Spaniel (who now thinks he’s a Springer), Matthew is the song sung for you.
