    Marty's Story . . .

Original:  “A very sweet guy, Marty is quickly adjusting to foster living since he easily makes friends with people, other dogs, and even cats.”

After Marty was relinquished to a Maryland shelter, MAESSR was contacted to help place this adorable boy with a loving home.

A very sweet guy, Marty is quickly adjusting to foster living since he easily makes friends with people, other dogs, and even cats.  Energetic and happy-go-lucky, Marty appears to have been taught the basic commands, “sit” and “off,” but these skills are a bit rusty.  He would benefit from having a loving home that will exercise him and reinforce his obedience training.  For example, Marty just loves people and often jumps up on them until he’s reminded to sit.  Remedial leash training would be helpful as well as he pulls on the leash during walks because, as a typical Springer, he’s so busy checking out all of those wonderful sights and smells along the way.  He should be a quick study, however, because he’s so eager to please.

Marty has met a child as young as 18 months; he just sniffed and walked away. With neighbor children, ages 6 – 10 years old, he has been fine.  Great with other dogs, he is very good with the cats in his foster home, too.  He just wants to sniff them and walk away, or, he tries to play with the younger kitty.  Marty’s a playful guy, too.  He loves to fetch balls or other toys.  LOVES it!

Housetrained, Marty will stand by the door if he needs to go out and his foster mom doesn’t notice, he’ll just pace back and forth at the door to get her attention.  Marty is crate trained and will sleep in the crate at night or with his family if he’s invited.  While his foster mom is at work, he is crated.  So far there have been no episodes of counter-surfing or getting into the trash; but, if left on his own it’s possible that Marty could be tempted to do so.  He’s certainly young, active, and agile enough to do so!  When his foster mom is home, he has shown impeccable house manners.

Although hyper-excited at the outset of a car ride, Marty settles down quickly.  When having his ears cleaned or feet touched, Marty is compliant. He will let his foster mom roll him over to inspect the stitches from his neutering surgery without complaint.  Having arrived at his foster home already bathed and groomed, Marty has yet to experience the electric clippers in his foster home…but an ear trimming is in his future!

Keep an eye out on updates for Marty as this little guy is sure to make a wonderful, sweet companion!
