    Jane's Story . . .

Update 02/26/2013:  "She was a train-wreck healthwise, but very sweet and grateful for a warm, cozy place to sleep and plenty of food."

It is with a very sad heart that this news is shared. Jane went to the Bridge two days ago.

Jane came to MAESSR about 6 weeks ago. She had been abandoned on a farm in Virginia. MAESSR volunteers jumped right in to help get Jane everything she needed. She was a train-wreck healthwise, but very sweet and grateful for a warm, cozy place to sleep and plenty of food. Jane had made so much improvement in her overall health and with her skin problems that everyone was sure she was going to be around for quite a while longer.

About a week ago, Jane moved to a brand new foster home…………one that would afford her lots of one-on-one with her family. She was getting SPOILED ROTTEN there. Her foster parents were doing everything they could to make Jane a HAPPY girl. Unfortunately her heart could not hold on any longer.

Jane was loved and cared for in the last six weeks. Everyone who met her and who was involved with her care had done their best to spoil her. Run free, Jane! We wish you could have stayed longer.

Original:  "Jane is a true testament to the resilience of the Springer spirit."

Jane came to MAESSR after being abandoned on a rural Virginia farm. Her owner had been hospitalized long term, and there was no one left to care for the animals. Arriving at her foster home in pretty rough shape, Jane’s skin and fur were a mess and she tested positive for heartworms. She has arthritis in her hips and also in her front leg due to an old break that had been set incorrectly. Jane had been infested with fleas, but a neighbor who had been trying to care for her had given her some flea medication to lessen her misery.

No longer living in the elements, Jane has truly taken to being an inside dog. She LOVES a nice fluffy dog bed and has wonderful house manners. Having gotten over her initial shyness, Jane now tries to get anyone and everyone to love on her. She has put on some weight, and her foster mom estimates that she is feeling about 10 million percent better! Currently receiving supplements and pain meds for the arthritis, it’s obvious that they have made a huge difference. Jane actually was leaping at her foster mom one day when she came home!

After considering Jane’s health and age, the vet thought that doing the slow kill method of heartworm treatment would be the best for her. She is given a pill at the beginning of every month. This will eventually kill off all of the heartworms.

Jane is a true testament to the resilience of the Springer spirit. Because of MAESSR, Jane is abandoned and unloved no more. She would like nothing more than to have a warm, loving home with special people to call her very own.

Please keep your eyes open for updates on this very SWEET girl.
