  •  Three years ago, we made the best decision in deciding to adopt another ESS.  Zoey then came to us and is the BEST dog ever.  She is not only beautiful but so well behaved and is loved by everyone. We can't thank MAESSR and Debbie enough for giving us Zoey.                                                                                                                                                                                                  Judy Minnick, NJ

Gina's Story . . .
___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Update 04/29/2020: “This sweet girl needs an experienced family that will continue to help her reach new goals in socialization.”

Gina, or Gigi as she is now known, has made tremendous progress in the last few months. She still has some anxiety and is scared, but nothing like she was previously. Gigi has learned to walk on a leash. She recently spent a few weeks with another foster family where she was the only dog. Gigi got to go hiking and went on many walks; she actually began to enjoy the walks.

Gigi was found to have low thyroid levels. She has been started on an inexpensive medication to help with that and has lost about five pounds!!! Yeah Gigi! She was recently treated for an ear infection and was extremely patient with all the extra care involved. The vet staff all love her.

This sweet girl needs an experienced family that will continue to help her reach new goals in socialization. She needs to be exposed to the whole world (a little at a time). The family that adopts Gigi, and puts the love and time into helping her, will be rewarded by a fun-loving girl that just wants to be loved.

Original: “Gina came to her foster home frightened of everything. She is making good progress, but will be a long term project.”

Gina’s temporary family in Virginia got her from a breeder as a companion for their other dog. Unfortunately Gina was so frightened of the world that the family realized they did not have the skills to help her learn to live a normal life. They contacted MAESSR and asked for help.

Gina came to her foster home frightened of everything. She is making good progress, but will be a long term project. Gina was started on a probiotic supplement for anxiety. Her forever family must commit to keeping her on it for a minimum of six months post adoption.

Gina is crate trained and about 95% housetrained. She will steal things if she can get to them.

Learning proper leash walking is still a work in progress for Gina. She has improved in her car riding skills. Originally she had to be picked up and put in the car. Now she will jump in and rides quietly once she is in the vehicle.

Gina has never shown any aggression.  When she is in a scary situation, she either shuts down or tries to run away.

This baby is a diamond in the rough and with a little more work will be an excellent family companion.
