  • We got Boone from MAESSR when he was 6 years old. He was not dog-friendly and not good with young children, which presented some problems for us.  However, he loved us unconditionally, and he deserved the same from us. We introduced him to swimming.  He was hesitant at first, but he quickly became a water dog.  He loved car rides and just being with his people. We lost Boone very suddenly and unexpectedly on Sept. 11,2018 due to a bleeding tumor in his spleen. It was one month shy of his 13th birthday. He was great up until that last morning. There is a huge hole in our hearts that will never be filled. Even if we get another dog, there will never be another Boone.

Flame's Story . . .
Original:  “Training will be easy with this beautiful boy because he is a fast learner and completely open to pleasing people.”

When a Maryland breeding kennel decided to close, MAESSR stepped in to help with the placement of their dogs.  Flame was one of those dogs.
Not having been out into the world in his short life, Flame is a bit overwhelmed by all the new things he has been encountering.  His foster mom is introducing him to new experiences as slowly as possible and so far he is doing very well.  This sweet little boy has already figured out how comfy the sofa can be and it has become his place to retreat when things get confusing.
Coming from a kennel environment, Flame knows no commands, but he has found the pleasure of playing with toys and riding in the car.  His foster mom thinks that one perk of his background is that he doesn’t know what the trash can is so far!  So, there’s no trash diving or counter-surfing for this sweetie.  He will quickly learn the finer points of living inside a home since he is completely open to pleasing his people.  Flame has begun his housetraining, which is going well, as is his leash training.
Note that MAESSR only places puppies (even year old pups) in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs 1 year old and younger to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption.  Flame will be a star pupil.
This little guy is amendable to anything asked of him. He was an excellent patient during his vet visit even when the vet looked at his infected ears, gave him his vaccines, and got a urine sample.  He is receiving medication for his ear infections and for a urinary tract infection.  What a good boy, Flame!
Flame gets along great with all the dogs in the household and is absolutely fascinated with the small children that live next door, although a little shy at first.  He lets them pet him and follows them around, checking out whatever they are doing.
As he becomes more experienced in his new and exciting world, it is expected that this adaptable boy will fit into almost any home environment.  Watch for more on Flame as he explores the world and finds all the joyful things that are in store for him.
