    Ferdinand's Story . . .

"Ferdi has a great temperament and loves people. He can’t wait to find his furever home!"

Ferdinand had lived with his previous owner in Pennsylvania since he was 10 weeks old.  Due to a change in jobs that required a lot of travel, Ferdinand was reluctantly relinquished to MAESSR’s care so he could receive the attention he deserves.
Upon arrival at his foster home Ferdinand greeted everyone, both human and canine, with a happily wagging mini-tail! He was immediately enthralled with the resident Springers’ toy bin and initially displayed some toy guarding. He would growl at the dogs when they approached him while he was playing with a toy but, over time, this has subsided. He loves toys and his playful side has begun to emerge as he gets more comfortable in his foster home!
Ferdinand, or “Ferdi” for short, rides very well in the car. He walks well on a leash unless he gets overexcited about something, in which case he pulls. He may benefit from a gentle leader or a harness when taking him to places where he could become easily excitable. Although fully housetrained and accident-free, Ferdi does not display a clear signal when he needs to go out. His foster mom is currently attempting to teach him to ring a bell on the door when he needs to go outside. He knows basic commands, such as “sit,” “lie down,” “stay,” “wait,” and “off.” Currently he’s learning the command “gentle” when taking treats, as sometimes he gets very excited for something yummy.
Ferdi’s vet visit went well, although he was understandably nervous and anxious. He was great with the vet and the vet tech and was brought up to date on all shots. His ears and teeth look great; the vet even commented on how clean his ears were…especially for a floppy eared Spaniel! He tested positive for Lyme, but shows no symptoms. This will be monitored.
Ferdi is a typical sweet Velcro Springer who follows his foster mom almost everywhere in the house. He has a playful side, but mellows out when he is done playing. He loves to cuddle and loves attention, and asks for tummy rubs regularly!  Ferdi has a great temperament and loves people. He can’t wait to find his furever home!
