Description:

Original:

Ringer came into MAESSR’s care after he was relinquished by his family to a Virginia shelter. The family lived in a trailer and he was just too active for that environment.

Ringer is great with the resident dogs and loves to play. However, he does have some food and object aggression which his foster family is working on correcting. Ringer is not completely housetrained yet and is not obvious about signaling his need to go outside. He does not seem to realize that relieving himself indoors is inappropriate. He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate at night. Ringer does attempt to counter surf on occasion, but has improved greatly. He will get into the trash if it is left out and he helps himself to any food product within his reach. He was allowed on the furniture in his original home and was allowed to sleep on the bed.

Ringer is doing better at commands and responds to “sit” and sometimes “come,” but only when what he is interested in is not that great. If he is intent on a squirrel or duck, “come” is totally forgotten! Ringer is not leash trained and his foster family has to use a halti harness to walk him. He rides alright in the car, but wants to get in the front seat and turns to rubber when you try to put him back. This high energy boy loves to play and really likes stuffed toys best. Ringer loves the water and when he first was taken to his foster family’s lake house, he chased the resident lab right into the lake. Obviously his first experience in the water, Ringer was very confused initially and tried walking on top of the water looking a lot like a purebred trotter! Then, he started swimming and he hasn’t been dry since!

Ringer is looking for a forever family that loves to do outdoor activities that would include him. Woof! Come on in! The water’s fine.
