Moses is aptly named as he has had quite the interesting journey into MAESSR’s care. A small rescue group in South Carolina originally rescued Moses two years ago. His foster mom there just fell in love with him and he remained with her, well loved and cared for, for two years.

Unfortunately. many of the shelters in her area are high kill facilities and Moses’ foster mom was beginning to turn into the “old lady in the shoe” with her foster dogs. She made a difficult decision to find homes for the more adoptable dogs, so she could provide forever homes for her special needs dogs. The rescue group then used its connection to a rescue group in eastern Pennsylvania to help these wonderful dogs find new homes up north. MAESSR heard about Moses and reached out to the South Carolina rescue group. The group was thrilled to hear that MAESSR could find Moses a loving new home.

It was all just meant to be when one of the volunteers in South Carolina was making a trip to Pennsylvania in the next few days. She drove Moses and 9 other dogs 11 hours in her minivan to northeastern Pennsylvania. Moses’ MAESSR mom was waiting to meet him as he pulled in. He arrived after his long ride, took a quick potty break and then hopped into her SUV for the last leg of his journey without a peep. A couple of times his foster mom even double checked to make sure he was still back there!

Moses has been a true southern gentleman in his foster home. After a day at the groomer, his foster mom just can’t stop bragging about what a beautiful and sweet boy he is. He incurred a minor ankle injury right before his big journey north. The vet recommended two weeks of limited activity to let it heal and he will be good as new. He has been on “rest and relaxation” since arriving. He has taken this with unusually good grace for an active Springer boy. He has found he quite likes it in front of the fire!

He gets along with everyone he meets. Moses is living with two resident female Springers and a resident cat. He shares very well and accepts his place as the lowest member of the pack. Moses can best be described as easygoing. He will sleep anywhere there is a comfortable bed. He is crate trained and accepts time there without any problem. He loves the company of his humans but he is not overly needy about it. He is also very well behaved in the house. He has had no accidents since arriving. He doesn’t counter surf or check out the kitchen garbage. He does love tissues and will take them out of the trash in the bathrooms if he has the opportunity. He was allowed on the couch in his former home but, after a couple of days, he has accepted the best place for him is on the big comfy dog beds.

Moses is also quite the character. He eats lying down. He will stretch out with his front legs around his dog bowl. He isn’t the least bit protective; his foster mom thinks he just likes to really enjoy his dog food. His foster mom can take the bowl away and he will just look at her and thump his full tail at her. He also loves to rub his whole body back and forth with complete gusto on the beds. After doing this a couple times at 4 AM, his foster parents decided he would do better sleeping in the kitchen. Since the teenage girl’s bedroom is right off the kitchen, Moses has decided he will just sleep with her. Moses is also very affectionate. He enjoyed the attention of his foster parents’ children and grandchildren during their weekend visit.

Moses is great car rider, but his greatest enjoyment is chasing squirrels. After his two weeks of limited activity, he will be ready for a forever home with a big fenced in yard so he can chase away. He walks well on a leash and is overall just one of the best houseguests his foster mom has ever had. This sweet southern boy will make a loving addition to any family. Do you have a spot in your heart for this special, southern boy?
