    DJ's Story . . .
    _____________________________________________________________________

Update 11/02/2013:   When DJ came out and heard his foster mom, he started to whine and cry happily to see her and laid a big wet kiss on her face!”

DJ recently had surgery to redo his cherry eye.  He also had two lumps removed that were suspicious but considered to be fatty tumors.  Good news!  Everyone at the vet’s office absolutely loved DJ, saying he is the cutest and most loving dog!  He just melts in their hands as they pet him!

DJ came out and heard his foster mom, he started to whine and cry happily to see her and laid a big wet kiss on her face!  He was doubly happy to come home.  The first thing he did was to look for his orange dinosaur.  Then, he carried the dinosaur in his mouth while crying a happy song!

DJ is on antibiotics, both oral and eye, for 2 weeks and will have staples removed from the tumor incisions in 10 days.  He will need inexpensive artificial tears for the rest of his life to assist in any dry eye he may experience.

In spite of his recent surgery, DJ continues to be the happy and ever loving dog he has always been!  Keep an eye out as this happy singer recovers and looks for his furever home.  What a lucky family that will be to welcome his love and his orange dinosaur into their midst.

Update 09/30/2013: When his foster mom returns home from work, this major wiggle butt greets her with his orange dinosaur in his mouth.”

It's said the eyes are the windows to one's soul.  Well, if this is true, then DJ has a soul that is the sweetest and so full of love!  His eyes tell all!

DJ recently represented MAESSR at an event.  Talk about being the hit of the show!  So many people remarked that he was such a sweet, adorable boy!  DJ met some young children, the youngest being around 6 years old, and did very well with them. He had such a grand time!

When his foster mom returns home from work, this major wiggle butt greets her with his orange dinosaur in his mouth.  DJ’s just happy as a lark!  Perfectly housetrained, DJ knows exactly where to go for his treats, which he takes ever so gently.  He loves going for his walks with his springy, carefree stride.

DJ's coat is full and lush now, his skin treatment complete. The little masses on his ears are just about gone.  This special boy is happy, healthy, and wonderful!

DJ is ready to share his love with his forever family and all he asks for in return is good food, treats at bedtime, lots of love and, oh, his orange dinosaur must come along!  Small price to pay for lots of love in return!

Update 09/02/2013: “DJ’s foster mom cannot express in words how loving he is.  One has to see it to understand.”

Medically DJ is doing wonderfully!  His inexpensive thyroid medication has certainly been beneficial for him and he will continue with this regimen for the rest of his life.  He’s now sporting a beautiful coat; it’s so thick and soft!  The dry patches on the tips of his ears are subsiding more and more. Additionally, DJ’s cherry eye has healed well so he’s looking very handsome, indeed!

Two of DJ’s favorite things (aside from people) are going for walks and his orange dinosaur.  He recently met a new friend to play with, too, in the form of a new MAESSR foster dog.  The one year-old pup spent the weekend with DJ and shared his pen at night.  These two rascals got along just fine.  In fact, they were playing together at 2:00 in the morning!

DJ’s foster mom cannot express in words how loving he is.  One has to see it to understand.  He is a true joy to his foster mom and is dedicated to his people.   DJ would love to have a forever home in which he can obtain all the love he had missed prior to becoming a MAESSR boy.  Are you up to the task of loving DJ the way he so deserves?  DJ will give you all the love his little body can hold... and then some!

Update 07/28/2013:  "DJ has been freed from the comfy collar after healing from his cherry eye “nip and tuck” and, BOY, is he ever happy!"

DJ has been freed from the comfy collar after healing from his cherry eye “nip and tuck” and, BOY, is he ever happy!  Now he can readily get his favorite toy!  DJ has been cleared with a clean bill of health!  He is to receive his inexpensive thyroid medication on an ongoing basis.  There’s just no doubt about its benefit for him.  He will finish up an antibiotic shortly and continue with his medicated skin spray for a little while longer!  The extra dry skin lumps on his ears are getting smaller and smaller; soon they should be gone!

DJ continues to be such a joy to his foster mom and so loving!  You will never feel a lack of love or happiness with DJ around!  “Love, love me do.  You know I love you, I'll always be true, so please - love me do” is the song DJ is waiting to "spin" for you!

Update 07/17/2013:  "DJ's health issues have vastly improved since being in the loving care of a MAESSR foster family."

DJ's health issues have vastly improved since being in the loving care of a MAESSR foster family.  His inexpensive thyroid medication, the special baths and now a skin conditioner have helped his coat loss turn into soft and silky hair growth.  His bald spots are disappearing!  The warty growths on his ears have gotten smaller.  These may take time to totally dissipate but, with continued skin treatment, there is a positive outlook!  DJ is healing from a very recent nip and tuck of his cherry eye.  Though he is not exceptionally fond of the e-collar, he is tolerating it ever so patiently and will feel and look like a new dog when it finally goes away!

He’s working playtime into his daily routine and has found his very own special squeaky toy - an orange dinosaur!  He just loves this toy and will readily retrieve it.  He does not even have to be told to bring the toy back; he eagerly returns it to his foster mom to be tossed again!

While his foster mom is at work and at night, DJ continues to do very well with being crated.  Once his foster mom comes home though, he wants out to properly greet her, offering a wiggle butt dance and lots of kisses!  DJ has a proud springy bounce while going for a walk; his happiness just bursts through with each and every step.  Though it is extremely humid right now, the doggy pool still holds no interest for him beyond being a big drinking bowl!

DJ is going to make one lucky family extremely happy.  His heart is filled with so much love just waiting to explode into his forever family's arms and hearts!  He simply is one fabulous boy!  Before long, he has a follow-up visit with his vet to check the healing of his eye surgery.  Then, he'll be ready to spin his forever family his own special love song!

Original:  "This funny boy does not particularly like wet grass, but he always finds a dry spot when outside!"

DJ came into MAESSR’s care when a New Jersey animal shelter requested help with this sorely neglected Springer.  He had been severely neglected for years, but is now in the right place to get back on a healthy, loving track!

At his vet visit, DJ was diagnosed with hypothyroidism which is the most likely reason he has lost so much fur.  Now taking medication and special baths for this condition, DJ is on the mend to a healthier skin and coat of fur!  He also has cherry eye.  The vet has prescribed medicated eye ointment for this and once DJ’s other health problems improve, his cherry eye will be further addressed by his vet.  This eye condition does not stop DJ though!

A true Velcro Springer, DJ loves to be right by his foster mom’s side or in her lap for some extra love and petting.  The youngest person he has met is a teenager, but his foster mom feels he would be good with younger children since he is so patient and loving.  DJ has met the resident cats and shows little interested in them, especially not the "hissy" one!  His loving nature extends to the resident and foster dogs with whom he lives.  Although he gets along well with them all, he has chosen two as has special friends to play with.  Following their example, DJ learned to use the doggy door right away and he readily goes outside to take care of business.  No accidents for DJ!

Besides being reliably housetrained, DJ is also crate trained.  During his first few nights in foster care, he whimpered a little when crated, but now he readily goes in at bedtime, waits for his bedtime snack, and then curls up inside on the doggy bed for a good night's sleep anticipating the new day!  When his foster mom is out of the house, DJ is crated and also does well.  Patient and not grabby, DJ has no issues with humans or dogs coming near his food and he takes treats gently from his foster mom’s hand.  He’s willing to share his toys, too!

This funny boy does not particularly like wet grass, but he always finds a dry spot when outside!  Despite the hot weather, DJ has no interest in the doggy pool at this time, except for a nice cool drink!  It’s not that he does not like water; he’s a perfect "statue" while getting his medicated bath treatments!  He does not move at all!   How much easier can a bath be!  Perhaps he is so patient because the towel rub-downs that follow the bath are one of his greatest pleasures! He also stands perfectly still while getting his ears cleaned and eye ointment applied!  What a good boy and model patient!

DJ walks well on the leash and is a perfect companion in the car not trying to take a turn behind the wheel.  He does not seem to know any commands but he knows what his foster mom means when she says, “Wait.”  Since he wants to please his people so much, DJ should be quick in learning other commands.  When he sees someone walk by or if dinner preparation is taking too long, DJ may do some barking, but it is not excessive.

This DJ only spins love tunes as he is such a wonderful, loveable, tolerant guy who is just happy hanging out with his people.  He would make an excellent, devoted companion.   Stay "tuned" for updates on DJ!
