  • We got Boone from MAESSR when he was 6 years old. He was not dog-friendly and not good with young children, which presented some problems for us.  However, he loved us unconditionally, and he deserved the same from us. We introduced him to swimming.  He was hesitant at first, but he quickly became a water dog.  He loved car rides and just being with his people. We lost Boone very suddenly and unexpectedly on Sept. 11,2018 due to a bleeding tumor in his spleen. It was one month shy of his 13th birthday. He was great up until that last morning. There is a huge hole in our hearts that will never be filled. Even if we get another dog, there will never be another Boone.

Dakota VIII's Story . . .

Original: "Dakota is still a fun loving pup who likes to be kept very busy so he has toys everywhere!"

Although raising two Springer littermates with children sounded like a good idea, it proved too much for a Pennsylvania couple. As the pups grew up, their family felt that they could not handle two rambunctious, healthy, happy Springers and their own children. So, they contacted MAESSR to place their Springer boy Dakota knowing we would find him a wonderful new forever family.

This handsome young pup spent Christmas Day with twelve people and the resident Springer and was the star of the party! Dakota is a real socialite who loves people kisses and checking out what everyone got from Santa! Even though he loves to counter-surf, he only stole one cookie! His foster parents are teaching him that Santa puts counter-surfers in the “naughty” category and that he does not want to be on that list once he gets to his forever home. Dakota knows how to shake and to give his most loving Springer look which was a big hit at the party. When asked, Dakota sits nicely, but does not always come when called. Walking on a leash is not his forte yet, but he is working with his foster mom on that issue.

In his foster home, Dakota hangs out with the resident Springer who is six years old. They enjoy each other’s company and love to run and play in the snow. Bunnies and squirrels need to watch out when Dakota is out in the yard! Dakota gets to go to work every day with his foster parents and has proved to be a great greeter who gives and receives many kisses! Although his original owners stated that Dakota gets car sick, he has done fine driving back and forth to the office. With all of his hard work, Dakota does like to take a late morning nap.

Dakota is still a fun loving pup who likes to be kept very busy so he has toys everywhere! If he can’t find a toy, he will play with the next handiest thing even if it isn’t a toy. It’s best to keep those closest doors shut! Dakota is housetrained and has full run of the house when the foster family is home. When they are out, he needs to be crated. If not, he will try to follow them out by scratching at the door frame. At night he likes to sleep in his foster parents’ bedroom.

Dakota is looking for a family that has a big yard and people that will appreciate him for his very playful, healthy, high energy, happy self!
